Dear Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce Members,
I hope this newsletter continues to find you and your families well.
As the Finger Lakes region enters the second stage of reopening, we wanted to share a resource that will help your business obtain personal protective equipment (PPE) and find cleaning service vendors.
Below is a link to the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce's listing of local resources:
In an effort to keep our members connected, we will be planning several virtual networking events. Stay tuned for these announcements in the coming weeks @ https://fairportperintonchamber.org/?q=events-list
Stay well & see you soon!
The Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce board of directors are thinking about their members and our greater community during this challenging time.
First, we want you to know that New York businesses have been declared eligible to apply for economic injury disaster loans:
New York Businesses Declared Eligible to Apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans. Next...
The Chamber would like to share the information below with you on re-opening the state's economy. This information was provided to us by Martha Malone, Executive Director of the Fairport Office of Community & Economic Development.
The Minuteman Press franchise is sponsoring a campaign to help businesses get back on their feet by creating a local website called Bounce Back Fairport. It’s a free community website where you can list your business and encourage shopping locally, so we can all recover quickly. Essentially, its free local advertising, with no strings attached. Go to https://bouncebackusa.minuteman.com/locations/ny/fairport/ where you will find our local page for this area.
Again, it is free and takes only a minute to list your business.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we hope this newsletter finds you and your families well and that you are taking precautions to keep it that way. While getting through this pandemic remains the top priority, the Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce understands the unprecedented stress our business membership is under.
First, I’m sure you have heard a lot about the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and we are listing the most pertinent links on our news page listed below:
Fifty-five years of service has been clocked by Perinton Ambulance. In addition to serving our community's emergency-medical needs, the Perinton Ambulance staff is out and about in our community so our family members and neighbors become familiar with these care-takers, and learn from them too. For example, Beth Sardone, the Community Outreach Coordinator for Perinton Ambulance has facilitated 114 blood pressure clinics, given 102 lectures, hosts school tours, reads to classrooms of students, attends bike rodeos, and has attended 52 other communtiy events. Our community is fortunate to have the experience of the ambulance's President Jon LeRoy, serving our araa with 22 years of experience behind him. Read more, to plan to attend their May 23 event.
Last month, the Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce named the Genesee Valley Penny Saver as its very first Business of the Month in 2020. The Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce, which serves businesses well beyond Fairport Village, into Perinton, Bushnell’s Basin and Egypt, exists to help businesses succeed in today’s fast-paced world. Just as the Chamber connects member and business acquaintances within these communities, the Genesee Valley Penny Saver helps to keep our communities connected.
In 1948, our Penny Saver was founded in a garage, by Roger and Jane Harrison, in Avon, New York. Their children have become active in the business with Steve Harrison as Publisher, and Kim Dougherty as Vice President. The business outgrew the garage space and now occupies four locations; however, Avon is still the hub and home to the largest of the four. It is in Avon that the papers are printed.
72 Year Old Family Business Recognized as Business of the Month
With a customer reach of 132,000, this seventy-two year old family business keeps on growing and innovating. Congratulations to the Genesee Valley Penny Saver for being recognized as the Chamber's January Business of the Month. We also congratulate a familiar active Chamber member from this business, Daria Reitknecht! You can reach out to Daria with your congratulations through our Chamber website member directory. New York Businesses: Are you ready for the Shield Act requirements?
This Spring, New York State's Shield Act (Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act) goes into effect. The Shield Act requires any business that owns or licenses computerized data which includes private information of New York residents to construct and maintain a prescribed threshold data security framework. Organizations impacted by the Shield Act should be assessing their data security policies and programs in light of the new law, which carries hefty penalties for non-compliance. MCCM, in association with CE Tech, Doyle Security and E Waste+ is offering a free seminar on how to become Shield Act compliant. The program is ideal for business owners and executives, as well as compliance, IT and HR managers.

Do you plan to “FLOAT“ through July 4th? If so, the Fairport 4th of July Parade has space for you!
Every year, the Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce forms a 4th of July Parade Committee to plan the Village‘s celebration with a run, parade, and party in the park. Now is the time for your organization or business to apply to be in the Parade. This well attended event provides a lot of visibility.
Empire Gutter Cleaning, Inc. has been in the Parade, on a float, the last two years. They offered discounts to on-lookers and were amazed at how many consumers took advantage of the deal!
You do not have to be a member of the Chamber to participate. There is no cost to reserve a spot in the Parade. All you have to do is complete and submit the application form. Visit: https://fairportperintonchamber.org/?q=july-4th-parade-application-form
The Chamber would like to encourage float participation. It adds a visual quality to the Parade and grabs more attention. If you are not a float builder, you still can apply with a plan to walk. The addition of music is always welcomed too!
We look forward to parading with you on July 4th!
